It’s true to say that I’ve neglected my family of late, as I have worked around the clock to get Made in America off to the printer. Before this I was away for large periods of time traveling around America interviewing chefs and photographing them in their kitchens. When I was invited to Scarpetta in Beverly Hills for brunch on Sunday recently I asked if I might bring the family, it was a treat for all of us and we can’t wait to go back – particularly for the dessert buffet. Minty really enjoyed herself and hasn’t stopped asking when we are going to return. She came home and wrote this blog post, partly I fear to get my attention, which it certainly did and mostly to express how amazing it all was:
Sliders, a perfect thing to slide in to your mouth for breakfast other wise known as mini hamburgers. And everyone knows that you can’t have sliders without French fries.
For breakfast I also had a mini baguette and some fish (yellowtail and tuna) topped with micro greens and a pinch of sea salt, yummmm, spectacular my mouth is watering right now.
Now for dessert. Usually you do not have dessert after breakfast but come on, it is delish! Sugared strawberries, chocolat cakes with icing,
it’s like Willy Wonka anyways, double trouble chocolate cakes, almond mini cakes,
custard doughnuts, that have sugar on them,
little fruit cakes wwith a raspberry, fruit tarts for the Red Queen,
orange syrup that can make you shrink, lemon meringue pies that make you grow,
a mechanical cake and a beautiful chocolate sculpture.
It reminds me of Alice in Wonderland, my favorite movie ever – is this a dream? Somebody pinch me!
And the person who made all these cakes and stuff – Ladles and Jellyspoons may I present to you Richard [Ruskell] – he also is on some of the shows on Food Network, [winner of] Last Cake Standing and [champion of the] Disney Cake Challenges.
And Richard told me that they are doing cakes for Easter like giant Easter eggs and little chicks and chocolate bunnies.
Thank you, Richard.
